A steel newel post was created to smoothly join with the repurposed curved oak rail. A curved steel portion of the rail duplicated the curved shape of the wood and was seamlessly blended into the Newel post. |

Deck Railing
Metal Designer: Joe Clark of Architectural Elements
Fabricator: Joe Clark of Architectural Elements
This piece was designed with an open airy look so as not to block the view beyond. The custom-made artwork mimics the Dogwood trees planted just beyond the deck. The art panels were laser cut from 3/16 in. thick steel and treated with a chemical patina and an oxide dye. The result of the patina process is a rich, modeled dark leather finish. The top cap is of clear cedar with a weather resistant finish.
To provide privacy, the steel and cedar security gate (not pictured) has a metal art panel that is a “photo negative” of the more open and airy deck art.

Designer: Betty of Zena Designs Contractor: Moceri Construction Fabricator: Joe Clark of Architectural Elements The railings pictured here are primarily constructed from steel with a bronze top cap. The steel was treated with a chemical patina and an oxide dye to produce the appearance of oil rubbed bronze. The middle steel ribbon has a lighter finish making it contrast the darker body of the railing. The finish on the railings compliments the finish on the fireplace surround and flue cover.

Craftsman RailingMetal Designer: Andy Philips Fabricators: Joe Clark of Architectural Elements and Andy Philips The railings pictured here were built to compliment the craftsman styled Simpson door on the front entrance. One railing divides the living room from the entrance landing. The other lines the stairs to the living room. Both railings feature custom tempered and beveled glass panels. They also have smaller amber stained and antique clear glass inserts. The frame is constructed of black power coated square bar with a highly finished clear fir top cap. Under the cap are craftsman styled steel gussets. The base plates are beveled and mount with matching countersunk screws. |
